Do you know what is Kancha Ilaiah's problem? Anna's movement is a success without taking into account his ideas of dalit movement. Why can't Ilaiah start his dalit movement from Ramlila maidan... ohh I cannot say Ram as it is derogatory for Ilaiah so any maidan. The Congress will support your cause as they are for the downtrodden and for minorities. Best of luck for Kancha's dalit and downtrodden(minorities according to Ilaiah).
Kancha Ilaiah did not disappoint us even this time. One may have different opinions on Anna's movement and it is their right. But binding every good/bad thing that is happening in the country to forward caste conspiracy can only be done by Kancha lliah. I have been waiting for a column from him for a decade on more reasonable and rational analysis but he never fails to disappoint me. He seems to give forward caste/middle class (without considering that signifiant proportion of dalits have been joining middle class due to recent prosperity) too much credit for country's ills. If any forward caste member is found to remark even an iota of criticism of lower castes, I am sure he must have been blamed for racism. So much for equality. The concenpt of equality unfortunately he doesn't understand. His invocation of Ambedkar is even distasteful and insult to the great man.
The credentials that Kancha pretends to carry clearly defies the intellectual honesty and rational analytical approach that is required to comment over contemporory issues. One can ignore his paranoid outlook of casting each and every issue as either favouring or being against his agenda of furthering the so called dalit interest. But using terms such as fascism for the anna movement is nothing but fallacious in content, and malicious in intent. The doctorate holder sees sinister designs in millions of people who thronged the streets, for, he mis-read in them an exclusivist class the nature of which he could not properly comprehend. He saw this as a sabotage by "middle class" indians to his larger agenda of dalit uplifment. He observed this as communal and anti-muslim because national flags were being waved under the chants of vande-matram. He castigates the corporate sector and the"un-ethical capitalist set up of the country as the real cause of all ills, and the agenda makers of this movement. For him, Anna is just a fore-runner in this upheaval by the middleclass attempting to usurp the power by claiming higher moral grounds. Well, all these, and many more such trash conjectures strewn across this article surely gives ample evidence that kancha has unwittingly missed the larger narrative of this movement. To any honest neutral observer, thousands at ramlila maidan, azzad maidan, freedom park or hundreds of grounds aacross the country had no colour of caste, creed or religion. there were rich, middle class and poor.there were thousands of dalits and muslims who proudly wore the anna cap. All because CORRUPTION has no caste or religion. If there is any take-away from this movement, it is the renewed vigour and resolve of millions of indians to try and make a change in the way we live in this country. How much we shall succeed, no one really knows.WHAT, is of real concern and worry is the spread of such vicious, distorted and fallacious myths and ideas by the so called intellectual of the kancha variety which has the potential of subverting all honest attempts of cleansing the system. They will keep injecting the poison of CASTEISM, COMMUNALISM into the souls of such movements as part of thier propaganda and thier wider agenda.Indeed, if at all a term called as Social Facism exists, it is million times more apt on the social order that kancha and his ilks are propagating to usher in through thier agenda of social exclusion of entire classes of society and usurping, grabbing all the goodies in the name of retributive justice of retrospective issues. The marginalised, weaker sections do require overt support to emerge out of a hopelessly unfair playing fields, but certainly not by acts of snatching and grabbing, and being vindictive to the other classes which is essentially the moral foundation of these pseudo intellectuals who pretend to fight their causes, but in fact have cornered the real benifits and goodies meant for the downtrodden to themselves .
Instead of casting aspersions on Prof Kancha Ilaiah, who is an intellectual giant, why don’t you and Team Anna introspect and raise the banner of revolt on the mother of corruption, i.e. cultural corruption (dharma corruption) in Indian society instead of monetary corruption which is only a child of it? Either you ignore the core issue for your own selfish designs or lack the moral courage to confront it.
Kancha Ilaiah is neither a giant nor a dwarf, intellectually or otherwise. One is only commenting on the lack of rational analysis and evasion of reality in an article which Ilaiah has surreptiously thrown into the public domain of debate. True, it is time to raise the banner of revolt against the greatest cultural corruption or the adharma that this country has ever known - That of retributive justice (read the never ending reservation policy ) by invoking pieces of legislation by the polity of this country that sets to systematically corrode the the the moral edifice of this society, and further widening psychologically the gaps between the social groups.
A very thought provoking article. The more you shout 'vande mataram' and anti-corrption.. the more you are considered a patriot. constitution is becoming a tissue paper for these self certified 'deshbhakts'.
Dr Ilaiah as usual, indulges in sweeping generalisations and dangerous stereotype statements.
All actors evade taxes, all those participating in anti-corruption rallies are casteist, all corporates are unethical and corrupt who take every opportunity to milk the common man, all forward caste persons working for corporates indulge in corruption themselves etc etc.
He and his pseudo secular brigade expects that everyone who fights for a noble cause first has to fight for Dalit cause, then for the cause of Muslims (which typically means Modi bashing) only then are they deemed worthy of taking up any social cause.
Corrpution in India is a casteless phenomenon.
hello Subbarao!
Yes you...
Why do you keep on sleeping subbarao
Wake up subbarao...
Wake up
Corruption is casteless!
Oppression is classless!
What do you think of us?
Mindless?
Wake up subbarao
wake up
This is just rhetoric without much support of logic. You prefer to dismiss the Anna campaign under the garb of your sufferings from the Manuwadis which has nothing to do with the cause. Your mixing up two different causes is kind of the malady of an ignorant mind never knowing that you are unnecessarily further prejudicing the highly fossilised minds which are far more powerful and far more united and strategised. Your write up is a display of something pent up in you and which might get you some cheap popularity but in consequence making your marginsed bretheren more serious victims of atrocities of the perpetrator.
Dear Mr Ilaiah : After going through your article several thoughts wells up in my mind: 1. When you use a phrase 'social fascist' in general terms for all that represented the movement, are you being fair? 2. When you question the lifestyle of those who lead it or followed it, are you not being overtly reactionary (unless assuming that you have intricate details of the lifestyle of most or all of them)? 3. Being a movement to bring in a strong bill within the purview of the existing laws, it has certain limitations. Do you seriously expect a single bill would or could erase corruption from all spheres and strata of the society? 4. If not, then don't you think that it is unfair to question the current movement on the basis of issues that's beyond their current agenda? 5. And also don't you think that if the public, governing and legal institutions are made accountable, it will be less vulnerable to being enticed by the rich autocrates and corporates? 6. And honestly do you have any sane idea through which you mean to make the political, public, governing and judicial institutions accountable? 7. And last but not the least, can you dissect your idea as to how the current movement violated the Constitution?
I hope you will be kind enough to answer the above mentioned doubts.
I just can't explain how I agree with every word in your write up. This is a must read for every Indian. This will open their minds to the reality of this show that captivated the world over through media which believed in all your highlights here but supported team Anna with a view to getting more Television Rating Points.
Finally someone penned down the words of my heart. Kudos to Kancha Illiah sir for the eye-opening column. Hope this column will help crores of Indians understand the story and fact behind the Team Anna movement.
Kancha Illaiah sees red even in Hazare's fight against corruption in public services. He connects everything as though it is anti-dalit. I do not know how he is running his centre for the study if he does not believe in an organisational set up. Whether he likes it or not, an organisational set up has to be having different strata for carrying out different activities for the whole organisation. He wants everybody to think that he should be equal in every aspect but forgets that the nature had made the man to be different from the others and having different capabilities. He forgets these basic concepts and has been in his own virtual paranoia.
